Providence metro home prices increase 3.6% in January

PROVIDENCE – The Providence metropolitan area ranked 26th among the 40 largest metros for its 3.6 percent home price increase in January compared with a year ago, according to Black Knight Financial Services’ data and analytics division.
The average home price in the Providence metro area was $245,000; a year ago, it was $237,000. Prices are still 20.7 percent less than their peak, which was $310,000 reached in June 2006.
Month over month, the Providence metro ranked 30th among the 40 largest metros for a two-tenths of a percentage point decline in home prices.
San Jose, Calif. led the metros with year-over-year growth in HPI at 11.3 percent, followed by Denver at 11.1 percent and San Francisco at 10.1 percent.
The home price index report, released Monday, summarizes real estate transactions in January. Black Knight said that nationwide, home prices increased 0.1 percent for the month and rose 4.6 percent year over year to $241,000.
Connecticut home prices dropped 1.1 percent year over year, making it the only one of the 20 listed states to see a yearly decline, Black Knight said.
