PROVIDENCE – If you like the nightlife, visit Providence.
Rhode Island’s capital city made it on to a list of the best “social cities” compiled by Women’s Health magazine and Yelp.
The publication and the business review website determined the five most up-and-coming cities in four categories – fitness, food, culture and nightlife. Providence was named one of the top five cities for its nightlife.
Yelp’s researchers read more than 61 million of the site’s reviews to determine the rankings, and Womens’ Health interviewed local business managers, city experts and residents.
Providence was ranked No. 4 out of five cities in the nightlife category, coming after Memphis, Tenn.; Pittsburgh and Cleveland but before Seattle.
This is how the magazine describes Providence: “For a city of fewer than 200,000 peeps, Providence packs a major social punch – across nightlife and food, arts and sports. After-hours is where it really shines, though, due to a super-cool cocktail scene.”
It then lists three cocktails, and where to find them.
There is “The Pemmican,” which is described as “like fall in New England – in a glass” because it features cranberries, maple syrup, bourbon and cinnamon-infused spirits. It is served at The Grange for $10.
“I Keel Good,” a low-calorie vodka-basil-lemongrass drink, can be found for $8 at The Dorrance.
“Orchard House,” filled with apple bitters, rye, pear liqueur and house-made peach-syrup, is $11 at Cook & Brown Public House.
Full results of the social cities awards can be found at www.womenshealthmag.com/life/social-cities and in the October issue of Women’s Health.
