NORCROSS, Ga. – The Providence metro area ranked 75th in Site Selection magazine’s list of the top 100 metros of 2011.

The real estate strategy & economic development magazine ranked the nation’s metro areas by the “total project count” of corporate real estate ventures.

In order to qualify, a project must represent a capital investment of at least $1 million, create at least 50 new jobs and result in at least 20,000 new square feet floor space. Site Selection did not count government buildings, hospitals, churches, retail space or institutions in the metros’ project total.

Providence tied for 75th with Birmingham, Ala., and Portland, Ore., with eight such projects. Boston, which had 19 projects, tied for 47th place.

The Greater Houston area – including Houston, Baytown and Sugar Land – secured 195 corporate facility expansion projects in 2011 and took Site Selection’s top slot.
