PROVIDENCE – Providence is the third most charming state capital, just four months after being named America’s 12th most charming small city.
Chalk it up to Eddy and Union streets, considered the city’s most charming area, according to RentLingo, an apartment search website.
The website gave each city a “charm score” based on the affordability of local businesses, ratings of nearby businesses, whether businesses are locally owned, crime statistics and density of nearby gyms and parks. RentLingo also scored every street and block in a city to come up with the charm score.
Based on that criteria, Providence’s neighbor, Boston, is the country’s most charming state capital, followed by Annapolis, Md.
The least charming capital city? Trenton, N.J.
“The Charm Index stems from the belief that a charming neighborhood is created from flourishing local business combined with a residence that feels safe, is active, and has many opportunities to interact with other residents … Meanwhile, neighborhoods that are not as charming have a higher percentage of chain stores, pawn shops, strip clubs, credit loan stores, crime, and do not have access to community institutions such as parks, town halls and flea markets,” RentLingo wrote on its website.
Back in March, RentLingo said Providence was the 12th most charming small city, thanks to its vibrant Downcity area.

Boston charming???!!! Not at all. It is a loud, rude, and arrogant place…far behind Providence.

Providence a small city…not at all. It is New England’s second largest, one of the nation’s most densely populated, and loaded with big city characteristics. A small city is Newport or Portland, ME.

One thing is for certain — Providence is a great city.
