Providence to turn red for World AIDS Day

PROVIDENCE – On Dec. 1, at 6 p.m., Providence will join cities across the United States with 15 downtown buildings illuminated with red lights as part of the celebration of World AIDS Day. The buildings include:

  • Providence City Hall.
  • Providence Biltmore Hotel.
  • GTECH Corp.
  • Bank of America Skating Rink.
  • Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
  • R.I. Convention Center.
  • One Financial Plaza.
  • The Rhode Island Foundation.
  • Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island.
  • Trinity Repertory Theatre.
  • Providence Performing Arts Center.
  • Rhode Island Statehouse.
  • The Westin Providence.
  • The Stable.
  • The Dark Lady.
    To celebrate the lightings, Mayor Angel Taveras is holding a special program on the 18th floor of the Providence Biltmore Hotel. The first lady of Rhode Island, Stephanie Chafee, will join Taveras.
    The program will include a poetry reading, music and remarks from community leaders from AIDS Care Ocean State, AIDS Project Rhode Island, the R.I. Department of Health, The Miriam Hospital and Roger Williams Medical Center. The ceremony will be followed by a reception.
