Public meeting set on proposed power plant

PROVIDENCE – Three days after Gov. Gina M. Raimondo meets with Burrillville residents on July 18, the Office of Energy Resources will host another public meeting on the natural-gas power plant proposed for Burrillville.

The July 21 meeting will be a listening session at the University of Rhode Island. The public will be allowed to speak to the issue of climate change. OER will use the public comments, along with submitted testimony, to write an advisory opinion for the Energy Facilities Siting Board, ecoRI News reported.

The advisory opinion is one of several reports due to the EFSB that will inform its decision on the application for the nearly 1,000-megawatt power plant.

The meeting will be held at the Center for Biotechnology & Life Sciences in the Ryan Family Auditorium, room 100 on URI’s South Kingstown campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. •
