Pump prices rise 1 cent in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gas prices in Rhode Island rose 1 cent this week after dropping 3 cents last, according to AAA Southern New England.
The cost of self-serve, unleaded regular averaged $3.97 per gallon in the Ocean State – up by 1 cent from last week, but up 12 cents over the last month – according to the trade group’s weekly survey of Rhode Island’s pump prices.
AAA recommended consumers shop around for the best deal as the range in prices for unleaded regular in the Ocean State was 35 cents. Rhode Islanders could find regular unleaded priced anywhere from a low of $3.80 to a high of $4.15.
Rhode Island’s price is 18 cents greater than the $3.79 national average for a gallon of self-pump, regular unleaded.
Prices ranged from $4.14 per gallon for midgrade to $4.24 for premium unleaded and $4.13 for diesel.
A year ago, gas in the Ocean State cost an average $3.59 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
Gas prices in Massachusetts also rose 1 cent this week to $3.85 per gallon of self-serve unleaded regular after dropping 7 cents last week, according to AAA. Pump prices in the Bay State have increased 8 cents over the past month.
The range in prices for unleaded regular in the commonwealth was 47 cents. Consumers could find regular unleaded anywhere from $3.60 to $4.07.
Bay State gas prices ranged from $4.03 per gallon for midgrade unleaded to $4.15 for premium and $4.10 for diesel.
A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $3.46.
