PROVIDENCE – Bank Systems & Technology has named James Gifas, executive vice president and head of treasury solutions for RBS Citizens, to the financial industry publication’s 2013 “Elite 8.”
The annual Elite 8 listing recognizes executives driving growth through the innovative and savvy use of technology, according to the Oct. 11 Bank Systems & Technology announcement naming the 2013 honorees.
The publication selected Gifas for his role in leading treasury management innovations for Citizens, including both traditional and mobile payments, the Providence-based subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland PLC announced Tuesday.
In late 2012, Gifas oversaw the partnership between Citizens and Bottomline Technologies to launch accessPAYMODE-X, a digital payment and invoicing system that helps businesses eliminate paper-payment costs and generate revenue, with a percentage of a customer’s payment file total returned directly to the company.
Earlier this month, Gifas announced the launch of Citizens’ second-generation corporate mobile banking application, accessMOBILE, making Citizens one of the first commercial banks in the U.S. to offer a mobile banking app allowing users to deposit a check remotely.
The service has a 73 percent adoption rate among its initial target market after one year, Gifas told Bank Systems & Technology, and his team is already gearing up for the launch of the next generation of accessMOBILE later this year.
“At RBS Citizens, it is important for us to know our customers well enough so that we can anticipate their needs with our products and services,” said Gifas in a release. “This allows us to provide day-to-day advice as well as insight on what the future may hold.”
Prior to his role at RBS Citizens, Gifas spent 13 years at Citibank and four years at Deutsche Bank. He holds a degree in finance from Iona College in New York.
