PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices fell for the second consecutive week in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, though they remain higher than the national average, AAA Southern New England reported Tuesday in its weekly survey.

The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular ran $3.76 in Rhode Island, according to the Aug. 13 survey, 1 cent lower than last week. The Massachusetts average fell 3 cents to $3.66 per gallon.

Both prices were higher than the national average price of $3.52.

Rhode Island’s average price was up 8 cents from a month ago and 1 cent from this time last year, when the average gallon cost $3.75.

The Massachusetts average price was also higher than last month, by 14 cents, but 1 cent lower than the average price of $3.67 this week last year.
