R.I. Black Business Assn. names 2012 award nominees

THE RHODE ISLAND BLACK BUSINESS ASSOCIATION will name the winners of its 2012 Awards at its Oct. 12 gala.

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Black Business Association has announced the nominees for its 2012 awards, which honor excellence and celebrate businesses and individuals for their hard work and dedication to business, economic development and bettering their communities.
The nominees of the four categories – business leadership, business, entrepreneurship and community service – were chosen from a list of business owners and community leaders.
The recipients of the 2012 Awards will be announced at the organization’s awards gala on Friday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Metacomet Country Club in East Providence.
The nominees are as follows:
George T. Downing Business Leadership Award

  • Ardena Lee-Fleming, Regional Director, R.I. Small Business Development Center
  • Joseph A. Caffey, President, Omni Development Corp.
  • Delano Joseph Brooks, President, Essex Newbury North Contracting Corp.

The Allen Brothers Business Award

  • Banneker Industries Inc.
  • Kidz Kastle

Isaac Rice Entrepreneurship Award

  • Yemi Sekoni, Owner, Donahue Models & Talent
  • Chauncey B. Melvin, Executive Director & Independent Associate/Owner, LegalShield

Christiana Bannister Community Service Award
