R.I. Black Business Association names business awards winners for 2016

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Black Business Association has announced the five winners in its 2016 Business Awards Program, who will be recognized in October at the organization’s fifth annual gala at the Omni Providence Hotel.
The association awards are designed to recognize individuals for both professional achievement and service to the community, according to a news release. Lisa Ranglin, president of the RIBBA added that “these individuals and companies, we considered the best in their league”
The recipients to be honored Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. are:

  • Michael Van Leesten, CEO of Opportunities Industrialization Center of Rhode Island Inc., with the George T. Downing Business Leadership Award
  • Dewayne “Boo” Hackney, co-owner of It’s Hair Barbershop, with The Allen Brothers Business Award
  • Christine Cardoza, funeral director at Bell Funeral Home, with the Isaac Rice Entrepreneurship Award
  • Walter R. Stone, associate justice of R.I. Superior Court, with the Christiana Bannister Community Service Award
  • Simon Goudiaby, president and CEO of International Consulting Group Inc.

The awards gala will feature a keynote address by television journalist and host Roland Martin. The event’s theme will be “All In for Growth through Opportunity.” For more information about the event, click HERE.
