PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition is kicking off the new year with two free workshops intended to provide guidance on building a business.
Both workshops will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at Tech Collective, 166 Valley St., Building 3.
The first workshop, “Going from Idea to Business,” will be held Jan. 7. Business experts will discuss how to turn an idea into a business, and how to determine if an idea is financially feasible.
Panelists will include Thorne Sparkman, managing director of the Slater Technology Fund; Melissa Withers, managing director of Betaspring; and Lou Mazzucchelli, entrepreneurship program coordinator, Bryant University.
Registration information can be found HERE.
The second workshop, “MedTech Startup Law 101,” on Jan. 20, will feature a panel of lawyers who will discuss startup law, and highlight the three most common mistakes entrepreneurs make in the early stages – failing to properly assess and protect their intellectual property, not formalizing proper equity arrangements among founders and appropriate choice of the right corporate vehicle for their business.
