PROVIDENCE – Betsy Wall, the former head of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, has been hired as chief marketing officer for the R.I. Commerce Corporation, the agency announced Wednesday.
In the new role, the veteran tourism and marketing executive will lead state efforts to promote itself to businesses and tourists.
Wall will earn $135,000.
For eight years, she led the Massachusetts tourism office, from 2007 until earlier this year. The agency was responsible for domestic and international marketing efforts, which led to $18.5 billion in spending in the state, according to a release from Commerce RI.
She also is the immediate past-chairwoman of Discover New England, an organization based in Portsmouth, N.H. that focuses on increasing international tourism.
At Commerce RI, Wall will guide efforts to rebrand Rhode Island and increase visibility of the state, according to a news release.
