PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices rose 3 cents in Rhode Island and 7 cents in Massachusetts this week, marking the second consecutive week of unchanged or rising prices in both states, according to the weekly survey by AAA Southern New England.
A gallon of self-serve, unleaded regular gas averaged $3.44 in Rhode Island in the Nov. 25 survey, 3 cents higher than the price a week ago.
In Massachusetts, the average price for self-serve, unleaded regular gas this week was $3.36 per gallon, up 7 cents over last week.
Rhode Island’s average price comes in a penny lower than the average a month ago, while in Massachusetts, local gas prices are a penny more than last month. A year ago, the same gas cost $3.65 per gallon in Rhode Island and $3.56 per gallon in Massachusetts.
Self-serve, unleaded regular varied in price from $3.25 to $3.58 across the Ocean State in the survey. The average per-gallon prices for different grades of gas ranged from $3.64 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.77 for premium unleaded to $3.92 for diesel.
Self-serve, unleaded regular ranged in price across Massachusetts from $3.21 to $3.56 per gallon. Mid-grade unleaded averaged $3.55 this week, while premium unleaded cost an average of $3.67 per gallon and diesel posted an average price of $3.89 per gallon.
Prices in both states remain above this week’s national average of $3.28 for a gallon of unleaded regular – 16 cents lower than Rhode Island and 8 cents lower than Massachusetts – which rose 7 cents from last week’s average.
