R.I., Mass. show double-digit drops in gas prices at the pump

PROVIDENCE – For the sixth consecutive week, the retail price of gasoline fell in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to AAA Southern New England.
Self-serve, unleaded regular gas averaged $2.16 per gallon in the Ocean State, a decline of 15 cents in the last week. In the last month the price has decline 47 cents, while the new level is $1.35 less per gallon than it was a year ago.
Prices in Rhode Island ranged from $1.99 per gallon to $2.44 per gallon for regular. The average price for other grades of gas were: $2.43 for midgrade unleaded; $2.64 for premium unleaded; and $2.95 for diesel.
For the first time in a long time, the price of gas in Massachusetts was equal to the Rhode Island price, as it frll 10 cents in the last week to $2.16 per gallon for self-serve, unleaded regular.
The price in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island is 9 cents more than the national average. The Massachusetts price has tumbled 10 cents in the last week and 42 cents in the last month. A year ago, the price was $3.40 per gallon.

Midgrade unleaded in the Bay State averaged $2.42 per gallon, while it fell to $2.57 for premium unleaded and $2.99 for diesel.
