R.I. Medical Imaging installs outpatient MRI system

Posted 8/27/12

EAST PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Medical Imaging has installed a second 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in its outpatient setting at the Barrington Medical Center on the Wampanoag Trail on Aug. 24.

The state-of-the-art 3T MRI has been available at Rhode Island Medical Imaging’s East Greenwich location since 2011.

The new system captures images of the highest possible resolution as well as adding features that provide additional patient comfort, according to the firm. These include a more spacious scanner, shorter scanning times, compatibility for iPods, iPhones and MP3s, and a video entertainment system with a DVD library.

The “T” in 3T stands for Tesla, which is the unit of measurement representing the strength of a magnetic field. A 3T MRI scanner has two times the strength of a 1.5T scanner and 10 to 15 times the strength of an open MRI machine.
