PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Senate Republican caucus this month called for a complete review of state-employment policy for employees classified as “not full time” and the types of benefits they receive.
Rhode Island state employees who currently work a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in both the state retirement plan and the state’s medical-insurance program. Those who work a minimum of 16 hours per week can accrue sick time and annual leave benefits.
There are nearly 300 state employees working less than 35 hours per week, according to a news release. •
