PROVIDENCE – Thirty-four of Rhode Island’s most progressive companies gathered Thursday to be recognized for promoting health and wellness in the workplace, at Providence Business News’ fourth Healthiest Employers lunch.
Held at the Providence Marriott Downtown, the Healthiest Employers event is a celebration of companies that put in place programs for staff that gain and maintain better health, using nutrition counseling, on-site exercise programs, financial health counseling, and a whole range of other programs designed to tackle the physical and mental health challenges of today’s workplace.
The program is based on surveys that are given, scored and compared with national benchmarks by Healthiest Employers, an Indianapolis-based health and wellness researcher.
Keynote speaker for the luncheon was Provant Health Solutions Inc. CEO Heather Provino, who sketched a future for individual wellness that includes far more than simple dietary and physical activities guidelines, but takes into account the full measure of people’s lives and uses technology to keep help them on track with their goals.
The 34 winning companies were slotted into five size categories, with the highest-scoring enterprises in each group taking home special honors. The five category leaders are:

  • CVS Health Corp., 5,000+ employees
  • International Game Technology PLC, 1,500-4,999 employees
  • South County Health, 500-1,499 employees
  • Arpin Group Inc., 150-499 employees
  • Banneker Industries Inc., 2-149 employees

In addition to the enterprise honors, individuals were nominated and recognized for making great progress in fitness through a company program.
The PBN special section that includes profiles of all the winning companies will be available in next week’s edition of PBN. A link to the digital edition of the section is HERE.
