NEW YORK - Fifteen Rhode Island companies and seven in neighboring Bristol County, Mass., made Inc. Magazine’s 2011 ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America.
The business magazine started the Inc. 500|5000 list in 1982, ranking privately-owned companies across all industries according to percentage revenue growth over a three-year period.
Alex and Ani LLC made it onto the top 500 tier of the Inc. 5000 and was featured in Inc.’s Sept. 2011 issue.
Fuel Belt, (add)ventures and Ineoquest made the Inc. 5000 Honor Roll List for appearing five times or more on the list.
On a national level, the year’s fastest-growing company was ideeli, a New York-based members-only retail site. The shopping site has more than 4 million members, earned $77.7 million in revenue in 2010 and saw a three-year growth rate of 40,882 percent.
U.S. GDP growth over the three-year period was the lowest of any three-year period since the list debuted in 1982.
The total growth rate, which is the percentage increase of the sum of all honoree’s revenues, for last year’s Inc. 5000 reflected the sluggishness of the national economy, topping out at 42.6 percent.
The fastest-growing industry on the list was real estate, followed by government services and energy.
Inc. 5000 companies added approximately 370,592 jobs over the three-year period and earned a total of $366 billion in revenue, up 14 percent from the previous year.
