R.I. designers take home awards at annual Fine Furnishings Show

TWO Rhode Island-based designers took home “Best in Show” awards for their work at the recent New England Fine Furnishings Show.

TIVERTON – At the 21st annual New England Fine Furnishings Show held recently, two Rhode Island-based designers took home “Best in Show” awards for their work, according to a release sent Tuesday by KL Communications and Rockler Woodworking and Hardware.

Rhode Island School of Design student Adrian Roop and Michael Gloor, of Exeter-based Gloor Design were two of seven entrants to win “Best in Show” during the 2016 event which focused on the debut of new products.

Roop won the Student Work/Contemporary Furniture category for his oval-shaped bench with a floating top. According to the release, the judges were impressed by the design of the bench, in particular its oval shape and “how the sides were fastened to the ends to capture and keep it in tension.”

Recipient of the Marc Harrison Award for Marketing Excellence, Gloor’s booth space was chosen by the judges for its inviting atmosphere, “easy to read signage and good contrast of color.”

The 2016 event’s judges were made up of New England are industry professionals, including owner and director of the Furniture Institute of Massachusetts, Phillip C. Lowe, and editor of Home Remodeling South Coast, Cape & Islands, South Shore, Rachel Arroyo.
