PROVIDENCE – The state government has renewed its contract with Rhode Island Interactive LLC to provide interactive online services through the RI.gov e-government portal, extending the agreement an additional three years.
“The team at Rhode Island Interactive has helped us deliver efficient online services to the people of Rhode Island,” said Thom Guertin, Rhode Island’s chief digital officer. “This partnership has resulted in thousands of e-commerce transactions to make doing business with the state simpler and quicker for all Rhode Islanders. We look forward to building on our success to offer new services in a streamlined fashion to all businesses and citizens of Rhode Island.”
The contract renewal followed a competitive bid process and includes renewals could extend the agreement through July 2019, according to a Friday release. The new contract went into effect on July 1, 2014, and was approved by the R.I. Department of Administration.
As with the original contract signed in 2001, Rhode Island Interactive will continue to provide e-government services using a transaction-funded model without using appropriated taxpayer budget dollars, the release said.
Rhode Island Interactive, a Providence-based member of e-government firm NIC Inc.’s family of companies, has worked with more than 45 state agencies, boards, commissions and local governments to deliver online services for the state’s residents. Currently, the company manages more than 100 services through RI.gov, including online driver’s license and registration renewals, an enterprise business tax filing system, and both salt- and freshwater fishing licenses.
The RI.gov portal, Rhode Island’s homepage and official website, has been named among the top 10 state government websites seven times in the past eight years in the “Best of the Web” awards held by the Center for Digital Government national research and advisory institute, the company said.
