The 62nd annual Community and Justice Awards event, hosted by Rhode Island for Community and Justice, raised nearly $50,000 for the RICJ’s diversity training, juvenile justice, Wall of Hope and youth leadership programs.
During the event, RICJ presented the Community and Justice Award to Linda Newton, the president and founder of the Diversity and Inclusion Professionals of Rhode Island. The group provides a network for local professionals and it also acts as a forum for advancing diversity and cultivating a welcoming business climate.
RICJ’s president, Sam Palmisano of Amica Mutual Insurance Co., also praised several other DAIP board members, including Bobby Rodriguez of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Ramona Royal of Amica, Rafael Zapata of Providence College and a handful of representatives from Global View Communications, which partners with DAIP.
The luncheon raised $47,618 through the support of 25 sponsors, including Amica Mutual Insurance, Belvoir Properties, Nordson EFD and the Providence Journal Charitable Fund. •
