PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices remain unchanged this week in Rhode Island, while prices increased 1 cent in Massachusetts, according to the weekly survey by AAA Southern New England.
A gallon of self-serve, unleaded regular gas averaged $3.61 in Rhode Island in the March 24 survey, the same as the price a week ago. In Massachusetts, the average price for self-serve, unleaded regular this week was $3.53 per gallon, 1 cent higher than last week and a penny below the national average.
Rhode Island’s average price comes in 8 cents higher than the average a month ago, while in Massachusetts, local gas prices are 6 cents higher than last month. A year ago, the same gas cost $3.74 per gallon in Rhode Island and $3.63 per gallon in Massachusetts.
Self-serve, unleaded regular varied in price from a low of $3.50 to a high of $3.70 across the Ocean State in the survey. The average per-gallon prices for different grades of gas ranged from $3.81 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.89 for premium unleaded to $4.19 for diesel.
Self-serve, unleaded regular ranged in price across Massachusetts from $3.41 to $3.69 per gallon. Mid-grade unleaded averaged $3.71 this week, while premium unleaded cost an average of $3.83 per gallon, and diesel posted an average price of $4.21 per gallon.
This week’s national average of $3.53 for a gallon of unleaded regular rose 1 cent compared with last week to match the Massachusetts average. Rhode Island’s average of $3.61 per gallon remained 8 cents higher than national gas prices.
