RI marketplace plans fail to fully cover smoking cessation

PROVIDENCE – Like most around the country, Rhode Island’s health insurance plans offered through the state marketplace do not provide the coverage required by the Affordable Care Act when it comes to quit-smoking programs.

According to a new report from the American Lung Association, found that out of 348 plan issuers only 60 cover tobacco-cessation medications with no cost-sharing as required by the ACA.

Not one insurance plan in Rhode Island is in full compliance with the ACA guidance, according to the association.
