R.I. recognized for running top-performing unemployment insurance tax operations

CRANSTON – For the sixth year in a row, Rhode Island has earned a national award as the top-performer in a small state for unemployment insurance tax operations.
The National Association of State Workforce Agencies in Albuquerque, N.M., last week awarded its State Performance Excellence Award to the R.I. Division of Taxation and the R.I. Department of Labor and Training. DLT and the Employer Tax section of the Division of Taxation have long collaborated on running this area of the state unemployment benefits system, a news release from DLT said.
David M. Sullivan, acting Department of Revenue director cited the two agencies’ teamwork as part of the reason for the award. Scott Jensen, DLT director, noted that the national agency that gave the award, along with the U.S. Department of Labor, “sets the standard for best practices,” making the continuous win an important accomplishment.
DLT Assistant Director of Income Support Robert Langlais, who heads the state unemployment benefits program, and Chief Revenue Agent Philip D’Ambra, head of the Division of Taxation’s Employer Tax section, accepted the award on behalf of the state.
Gov. Gina M. Raimondo congratulated the division of Taxation and DLT, saying their performance fits in with her administration’s commitment to “continuous improvement in rethinking the way we work and becoming more customer-friendly.”
