R.I. seniors saved $8M on prescriptions in ’12

WASHINGTON – Thanks to the Affordable Care Act of 2010, 13,834 individuals saved more than $8 million in 2012 on prescription drugs, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced on Feb. 7.

In total, Rhode Islanders with Medicare have saved more than $20.5 million on prescription drugs since the law’s enactment by closing the gap in coverage known as the “donut” hole.

Nationwide, drug savings of $2.5 billion in 2012 were achieved, higher than the $2.3 billion in savings for 2011. •
