PROVIDENCE – About 20,000 Limited Liability Companies in Rhode Island must submit their annual reports before Dec. 1.

Businesses ranging from car dealers to restaurants are subject to the deadline; the penalty is a fine and the revocation of their Certificate of Organization or Certificate of Registration.

Online filers can submit until midnight Thursday at sos.ri.gov by clicking on its “Filing an Annual Report” option.

“Our customers have really embraced the upgrades we have made. More than half the annual reports filed last year came over the Web,” said Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis. “Our goal is to make it easier to do business in Rhode Island.”

The reports will be posted to online so the public can search the database.

“This transparency is consumer-friendly and ensures that the public has a place to turn for information about businesses,” said Mollis. “Filing annual reports shows their commitment to openness. And that can make people thinking of doing business with them more confident.”

Reports can also be dropped off at the Business Services Division, 148 West River St., Providence by 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 1.
