R.I. worst in region for personal well-being

Posted 3/12/12

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island ranks behind the rest of New England in a survey of the emotional, physical and mental well-being of its residents, according to a recent survey.

The Associated Press said last week that the Ocean State came in 35th nationally in the 2011 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. All five of the other New England states placed in the top 25. New Hampshire led the region, in ninth place. Nationally, Hawaii has the highest well-being and West Virginia the lowest.

According to the AP, survey respondents were asked about physical health, daily habits, access to food, shelter and their satisfaction with work and community. Rhode Island received particularly low marks for emotional health and work-environment satisfaction. •
