RIAC: T.F. Green passenger traffic continues to decline in June

WARWICK – T.F. Green Airport saw passenger traffic decline 7.3 percent year over year in June after a 7.8 percent decline a month earlier in May, according to numbers released Friday by the R.I. Airport Corporation.

Total passengers dropped to 308,534 in June compared with 332,925 during the same month last year, the sixth consecutive month of declines. Year-to-date, the number of passengers fell 6.8 percent to 1.7 million from 1.8 million for the same six months in 2013.

None of the five major airlines servicing T.F. Green registered a year-over-year increase in passengers for June. JetBlue Airways saw the most significant decline, dropping 19.7 percent to 19,924 passengers from 24,816 the year before.

United Airlines dropped 9 percent to 32,092 passengers, while Southwest Airlines fell 7.9 percent to 141,368 passengers and Delta Airlines fell 5.8 percent to 41,755 passengers.

US Airways posted the least dramatic drop in passenger traffic for June with a decline of 3.1 percent to 71,598 from 73,856 passengers in June 2013.

Despite across-the-board declines in passenger traffic, T.F. Green’s total cargo enplaned and deplaned for the month of June rose slightly compared with the same month last year. In June, the airport transported roughly 2 million pounds of cargo compared with 1.96 million in June 2013, an increase of 3.7 percent.

Year-to-date cargo tonnage increased 3.2 percent in the first six months of 2014, totaling 12.4 million pounds compared with 12 million a year earlier.

Since January, 28,443 aircraft have departed from or landed at T.F. Green Airport.
