RICE gives students $7,500 in scholarships

Rhode Island Consulting Engineers (RICE) recently announced the awarding of $2,500 scholarships to three undergraduate engineering students. The organization, which has run its scholarship program for more than a decade, received applications from students throughout the Northeast.
This year’s scholarship recipients are: Tiffany Cheng, a senior at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology majoring in environmental engineering; Matthew Edwards, a sophomore at Villanova University studying civil engineering; and Scott Luther, also a senior in the environmental-engineering program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Funds for the scholarships were raised through RICE’s annual scholarship golf tournament. The scholarships are a part of RICE’s programs aimed at encouraging young people to study engineering and eventually enter the profession. Part of its outreach includes the annual Engineering Career Day and Summer Engineering academy, both held at the University of Rhode Island for high school students. •
