With proceeds from a golf tournament held in June, Rhode Island Consulting Engineers recently awarded $6,000 in scholarships to three undergraduate engineering students in the state, under a program that has been in existence for more than 15 years.
RICE awarded $2,000 each to Timothy Clarkin, a senior at Roger Williams University, Hoshaiah Barcznski, a senior at the University of Rhode Island and Travis Johnson, a junior at the University of Rhode Island.
The scholarships are part of RICE’s program to promote and support engineering and encourage young people to enter the profession.
RICE works in conjunction with the R.I. Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the URI Transportation Center and the URI College of Engineering on several outreach efforts aimed at high school students during the year, including; participation by eight of its member firms in URI’s Engineering Career Day held in the spring and the school’s Summer Engineering Academy. •
