RIRRC breaks ground on sewer project

JOHNSTON – The owner and operator of the state’s Central Landfill and recycling services, Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation broke ground Wednesday on a $4 million sewer infrastructure project.

Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena, local town officials and representatives from Parkside Utility and Construction and the Narragansett Bay Commission attended the ground breaking.

The project, completely funded by the RIRRC, is part of the Town of Johnston’s long term plan to accede with wastewater treatment for the town.

In addition to bringing 25 new construction jobs to the area, the project will provide sewer access to more than 80 homes and area businesses.
