PROVIDENCE – The Slater Mill Museum in Pawtucket is the scene of a textile and apparel show created by Rhode Island School of Design students, inspired by works of art at the RISD museum. “Collaborative Print Project” is the work of 37 RISD students in the textiles and apparel-design departments and will be on display through Jan. 2.
Last spring, 14 students in a textiles class spent hours exploring the RISD museum’s extensive costume and textiles collection, some of which is not on view to the public, and then designed digital prints inspired by specific works. Then, using digitally printed cotton fabric, 23 apparel-design students created garments to complement and make optimal use of the print designs.
Instructors were Senior Critic Regina Gregorio and faculty members Beth Bentley and Suzanne Mancini. •
