PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island School of Design Museum ranked second best on a list of the 35 top college art museums in the country from Best College Reviews, behind only Harvard Art Museums in Cambridge.
Best College Reviews, which ranks American colleges and universities, said data was gathered from university websites regarding collections, exhibits, student opportunities and community engagement to come up with the list.
The RISD Museum, according to Best College Reviews, features more than 100,000 objects ranging from ancient to contemporary. It said it also is one of the largest university art museums in the United States.
“Distinguished by its relationship to the Rhode Island School of Design, the museum educates and inspires artists, designers, students, scholars and the general public through exhibitions, programs and publications,” Best College Reviews said.

It noted that the museum also offers performances, an Art and Design Lab for high school students, and an open studio.
