BOSTON - With a 61.3 percent industry employment rate for its 181-student Class of 2012, Roger Williams University was ranked No. 25 on The Boston Business Journal’s list of Northeast law schools.

The American Bar Association measures employment rates nine months after graduation. According to BBJ, the Bar Association counts graduates who obtained legal-industry employment, which require bar certification separately from those working in law-related jobs where a JD degree gave an advantage.

The BBJ list, compiled annually, ranks law schools in the region by a combined graduate employment rate in both legal or law-related jobs.

Touting the highest graduate employment rate of law schools in the Northeast was the University of Pennsylvania. Of its 270-student Class of 2012, 98.1 percent obtained legal and law-related jobs within nine months of graduating.

Rounding out the top three law schools in the Northeast were Columbia University at 97.4 percent and New York University at 96.1 percent.

Nationally, the University of Pennsylvania was beat out only by the University of Chicago, which touted a 98.6 percent industry employment rate for its graduating class of 215.

When compared with other law schools in the United States, Roger Williams University fell from No. 25 in the Northeast region to No. 180 nationally.
