PROVIDENCE – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo said she will nominate Bernard Buonanno Jr., the former chairman of the Providence Civic Center, as a member of the R.I. Convention Center Authority.
His name will be submitted to the state Senate for confirmation. As a member of the Convention Center Authority, Buonanno will join the team that oversees the R.I. Convention Center, Dunkin’ Donuts Center and Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
“Bringing more events and visitors to Rhode Island is key to stimulating the economy,” Raimondo said in a statement. “I’m thankful to Bernie for his commitment to serve and to bring top-level trade shows, entertainment and sporting events to Rhode Island. Generating more activity at these venues will create jobs and raise our profile as an excellent place to visit for work and play.”
Said Buonanno, “Serving on the authority is a great opportunity to champion economic growth in Providence and throughout the state.”
Buonanno is currently a partner at Riparian Partners, an investment banking firm. Prior to this, he was a partner at the Edwards and Angell law firm. He was chairman of the Providence Civic Center from May 2003 until November 2005, and also was a member of the R.I. Convention Center board from October 2005 to April 2013.
