PROVIDENCE – “Rhode Island: Cooler & Warmer” may be no longer, but it sparked the imaginations of many who turned to the Internet with their own ideas for state slogans.
Funny, rude, serious, heart-warming, the slogans run the gamut.
Here are some that Providence Business News has received since it put out a call for submissions last week:

  • “Come Alive in R.I.” – Steven Vessella
  • “Make Rhode Island Great Again.” With this slogan you get a free red hat! – Tom Scheehan
  • “Small State: Big on Life” – Sean Redfern
  • “Rhode Island, No Small Wonder” and “Rhode Island, Cool Spots, Warm Hearts” – Jim Sheridan (he said it could also be warm “hots” because only in Rhode Island do spots and hearts rhyme).
  • “Rhode Island: Come Ride the Wave.” – Linda Adamo
  • “Live happy, work smart,” “Artsy Smartsy,” or “Sea’s Smile.” – Pam O’Hara
  • Slogan: “Take the High Rhode to the Ocean State.” Logo: Windsurfer (flying high) on the ocean, with city skyline and Newport Bridge in the background. – David Farrell
  • Lucy Svagan submitted several: “RI: Hot Jobs, Cool Fun,” “RI: Where pleasure means business; business means pleasure,” “RI: High Sales * Full Sails,” “Work or play, it’s smooth sailing in RI,” “Increase Business; Decrease Stress @ RI,” “RI: Oodles of opportunity. Oceans of fun,” “RI: Come work. Come play. Come stay” and “Rhode Island. For job creation. For recreation.”
  • “Rhode Island: A Weekend of Sights, A Lifetime of Memories” –Edward A. Dutra

  1. I wasn’t wowed by cooler and warmer but I like it more than any of these, or those in the Journal. Live happy, work smart is pretty good, but isn’t a tourism slogan. Now that I look at all these, maybe just: Cooler. Works for hip. Works compared to summer city heat waves. Simple. Also works as a business recruiting message.
