Real money hidden in Hasbro’s French Monopoly games

PAWTUCKET – Imagine buying Boardwalk and Park Place with real money. Some Monopoly players in France will be able to do just that, and more.
In celebration of Monopoly’s 80th anniversary, real money has been placed in 80 games that are being sold in France by the Rhode Island toymaker. The games made their debut Monday.
Only one will hit the jackpot, however.
The Guardian is reporting that just one game will have all the paper game money replaced by euros, for a total of 20,580 euros ($23,268).
“We wanted to do something unique,” Florence Gaillard, brand manager at Hasbro France, which rolled out the prize sets Monday, told the Guardian.
“When we asked our French customers, they told us they wanted to find real money in their Monopoly boxes,” she added.
While there is no word on whether money may make it into the American version, in celebration of its 80th anniversary, Hasbro Gaming has introduced an 80th anniversary edition game with vintage-style boards, cards and money, as well as wooden houses and hotels and classic tokens including a lantern and money bag.
