PWCVB to launch ‘Recommend Rhode Island’ Thursday

(Updated, 6 p.m.)
PROVIDENCE – The Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau on Thursday will launch “Recommend Rhode Island,” a promotional initiative to re-brand its ambassador program and encourage grassroots participation.

For the past 12 years, the PWCVB has worked with people in the community as “ambassadors” to pitch the state as a great place for conventions, athletic events and organizational meetings, said Kristen Adamo, vice president of marketing at the PWCVB.

In 2014, 29 “prominent individuals” volunteered as “ambassadors,” and will be recognized at an annual luncheon on Thursday. Those people, who include R.I. State Police Superintendent Stephen G. O’Donnell and Wendy Mackie, CEO of the R.I. Marine Trade Association, helped generated $14 million in economic impact with bookings in 2014.

What’s new on Thursday, is that Martha Sheridan, president of the PWCVB will announce details on “Recommend Rhode Island,” an economic initiative for “everyday residents.”
