BOSTON – The Consumer Price Index in the Northeast rose 1.8 percent over the last 12 months to 247.23 in January, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Northeast region includes the six New England states as well as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Nationally, the index for all items, including the volatile food and energy prices, increased 1.6 percent to 230.3 before seasonal adjustment, year over year in January.
Regionally, the energy index rose 1.7 percent to 241.9 in January, after rising 2.1 percent in December. Comparatively, the national energy index fell 1 percent to 234.6.
The housing index in the Northeast posted a 1.8 percent increase in January (matching the national increase average) and the index for transportation rose 2 percent.
