BOSTON – The Consumer Price Index in the Northeast rose 1.7 percent over the last 12 months to 247.409 in September, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday.
The Northeast region includes the six New England states as well as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Nationally, from October 2011 through September, the index for all items, including the volatile food and energy prices, increased 2 percent to 231.41 before seasonal adjustment.
Regionally, the energy index rose 1.5 percent to 250.39 in September, the first increase after four consecutive months of year-over-year declines. Comparatively, the national energy index rose 2.3 percent to 256.3.
The housing index in the Northeast posted a 1.2 percent increase in September and the index for transportation rose 2.3 percent.
