BOSTON – The Consumer Price Index in the Northeast rose 1.8 percent over the last 12 months to 246.5 in December, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Northeast region includes the six New England states as well as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Nationally, the index for all items, including the volatile food and energy prices, increased xxx percent to 229.6 before seasonal adjustment, year over year in December.
Regionally, the energy index rose 2.1 percent to 239.4 in December, after rising after rising 2 percent in November. Comparatively, the national energy index rose 0.5 percent to 233.5.
The housing index in the Northeast posted a 1.7 percent increase in December (matching the national average) and the index for transportation rose 2.7 percent.
