BOSTON – The Consumer Price Index in the Northeast rose 1.5 percent over the last 12 months to 248.7 in March, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Northeast region includes the six New England states as well as New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
Nationally, the index for all items, including the volatile food and energy prices, increased 1.5 percent to 232.8 before seasonal adjustment, year over year in March.
Regionally, the energy index dropped 1 percent to 246.4 in March. Comparatively, the national energy index fell 1.6 percent to 249.6.
The housing index in the Northeast posted a 1.6 percent increase in March, outpacing the national increase by 0.3 percentage points.
Regionally, the index for transportation rose 1.4 percent, well outpacing the national year over year increase of 0.1 percent.
