Regional organization honors Gail Costa of Care New England

PROVIDENCE – Gail E. Costa, of Cranston, was named the 2016 Strategist of the Year by the New England Society for Healthcare Strategy. Costa, senior vice president and chief strategy officer for the Care New England Health System, received the award at the NESHS Fall Conference on Oct. 21.

The leading professional society for health care strategists in New England, NESHS recognized Costa for her professional accomplishments, mentoring of colleagues and contributions to NESHS as a former board member and president, according to a CNE statement.

Costa has been with Care New England for 20 years, and was promoted to her current role three years ago. Earlier, she had served as vice president for planning and director of the Physician Hospital Organization at Women & Infants Hospital. She had also held different positions in state health policy, health insurance and managed care.

Costa earned her M.S. in health policy and management from the Harvard School of Public Health and her B.A. in human biology from Brown University.

Costa, who has been recognized for her ability to guide regional health care organizations and programs in progressive directions and achieve constructive change throughout her career, has served on the American Hospital Association Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development’s board of development and Harvard School of Public Health Leadership Council.
