Report: Almost no rise in August foreclosure petitions in Mass.

BOSTON – There has been almost no change in the amount of foreclosure petitions filed by lenders in Massachusetts over the past year. According to a new report released Tuesday by The Warren Group, publisher of Banker & Tradesman, Bay State foreclosure petitions increased only 0.7 percent to 966 in August from 959 in August 2015.
There have been a total of 8,614 foreclosure petitions filed year to date in Massachusetts, representing a 17.7 percent increase from last year’s tally through August with 7,319.
Foreclosure petitions in Bristol County jumped nearly 13 percent over the year, to 105 from 93.
There have been much larger increases in both the number of auction notices filed and the number of auctions scheduled this year.
There were 741 auction notices filed statewide in August, a 31.8 percent increase from 562 filed in August 2015. There have been 6,209 auctions scheduled in Massachusetts this year, a 42.7 percent increase from the same timeframe last year with 4,351.
In Bristol County, auction notices declined 4.8 percent over the year, to 80 from 84.
The amount of foreclosure deeds statewide nearly tripled, increasing by 74.4 percent to 668 in August from 383 in August 2015. There have been a total of 4,100 foreclosure deeds recorded in Massachusetts year to date, representing a 46.5 percent increase from the 2,799 recorded in August of last year.
In Bristol County, the number of foreclosure deeds grew 101.9 percent over the year, to 107 from 53.
