PROVIDENCE – Brown University has recorded the highest number of applications in its history at 32,280 for the class of 2020, according to a report in The Brown Daily Herald.
That includes regular and early decision applicants. In February, Brown said that 669 early decision applicants had been accepted to the class of 2020 out of 3,030 who applied.
The Herald said the applicant pool’s demographics are similar to previous years, reporting that 41 percent of applicants identify as students of color and 67 percent applied for financial aid. Also, 17 percent of applicants identified as first-generation students.
Students from all 50 states applied, with California accounting for the most applicants, followed by New York and Massachusetts.
However, more international students applied – 5,432 in total. Most are from China, followed by India, Korea, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Engineering also replaced biology as the most popular subject to study, the report said.
Students who applied through regular admission will be notified on March 31 about their admittance status, a Brown spokeswoman said.
