PROVIDENCE – Cranston, Pawtucket and Providence made a list of the top 100 “dream cities” from GoodCall, coming in 19th, 43rd and 61st, respectively.

Goodcall, a personal finance website, said this week that it reviewed data from 461 small to mid-sized cities nationwide to come up with its list of overlooked dream cities.

All three cities in Rhode Island were recognized for their low crime rates.

Cranston, ranked the highest in New England, was recognized for its dining amenities. Pawtucket was noted for its walkability, which helped boost its rating.

Providence, it noted, was included for its affordability, low crime rate, walkable neighborhoods and “plentiful amenities.”

It said all of the top cities are in the Northeast or Midwest, as these areas tend to have lower crime rates and much better walk scores. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin cities dominated the top 10.

Erie, Pa., topped the list for its “impressive cost of living and walk score,” the website said. The rest of the top 10, in order, are Scranton, Pa.; Parma, Ohio; Appleton, Wis.; Allentown, Pa.; Racine, Wis.; Grand Rapids, Wis.; Cicero, Ill.; East Orange, N.J.; and Green Bay, Wis.

GoodCall used data from Sperling’s Bestplaces.com cost of living index, as well as FBI city data for the crime rate statistics, U.S. Census data for amenities and walkscore.com to calculate walkability.
