Report: National memorial generates $4.6M for state

WASHINGTON – A new report shows that 60,505 visitors to the Roger Williams National Memorial spent $3.5 million in Rhode Island in 2015. That spending resulted in 50 jobs and had a cumulative benefit to the state economy of $4.6 million.

These expenditures supported $1.7 million in labor income and $2.9 million in value-added income, according to the National Park Service report.

The memorial is located at the foot of College Hill in downtown Providence.

According to the report, most park visitor spending was for lodging (31.78 percent, or $1.1 million) followed by food and beverages (22.6 percent, or $783,000), gas (13.13 percent, or $455,000) and retail (11.78 percent, or $408,000). •
