PROVIDENCE – Providence has the 33rd best foodie scene in the country, according to personal finance website WalletHub’s 2016 Best & Worst Foodie Cities.
WalletHub compared the 150 most populated cities by evaluating 21 key metrics across the dimensions of “Affordability” and “Diversity, Accessibility & Quality.” Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 being the best. Overall scores were calculated using the weighted average across all metrics, with Affordability accounting for 30 percent with six metrics and Diversity, Accessibility & Quality accounting for 70 percent with 15 metrics.
Ranked at No. 33, Providence had an overall score of 50.94. The city performed much better in Diversity, Accessibility & Quality, where it ranked in the top 30 at No. 30, than in Affordability, where it ranked No. 99.
By comparison, Boston ranked No. 51 on the list, with an overall score of 46.73. Boston ranked No. 47 in Affordability and No. 55 in Diversity, Accessibility & Quality. Worcester, Mass., ranked No. 94, with an overall score of 40.22. Worcester ranked No. 80 in Affordability and No. 90 in Diversity, Accessibility & Quality.
Orlando, Fla., was deemed to have the best foodie scene, with an overall score of 79.68. The city was top ranked in Diversity, Accessibility & Quality and ranked No. 19 in Affordability. With an overall score of 27.57, North Las Vegas, Nevada has the worst foodie scene. It ranked No. 144 in Diversity, Accessibility & Quality and No. 145 in Affordability.
