Report: R.I. top state for gardening searches

PROVIDENCE – When it comes to being environmentally friendly, Rhode Islanders care most about gardening, according to a survey by SaveOnEnergy.com, which provides consumers with information about energy plans.
The website said it researched “action phrases” that people may search for when looking into certain environmentally friendly activities to find out which states care the most about the environment; it said it then used Google Trends to rank results by topic and state.
As a result, SaveOnEnergy.com said it discovered that Rhode Island had the fifth-highest search results for gardening, behind only Idaho, South Dakota, Montana and Utah.
It also ranked the top states for reusing, wind power, solar power, composting and electric cars, as well as the top states for eco-friendly and organic searches. New England states were represented in most of the categories.

Maine ranked first in the nation for the most wind power searches, while Connecticut was fifth in the same category. Maine has more than 200 wind turbines, according to the website. Vermont ranked first for solar power searches, and first on the organic list. Maine placed fifth on the latter list.
